The 3rd edition of the INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ENERGY PRODUCTION FROM WASTE AND BIOMASS, "Energy from waste and biomass waste in an energy model" will be a major media event and a political, scientific and social reference which will analyze the production of energy by exploiting all kinds of waste and their contribution to a Spanish energy model both in the medium and long term.

The generation of energy from alternative sources is one of the main strategic tools for sustainable development of our society.

Biomass and waste contribute to the production of energy through biological, chemical and thermal processes.

The energy recovery from these sources can combine and close the cycles of waste, materials and energy.

Technologies in this area have developed rapidly. The processes are optimized and new ideas emerge for technical implementation.

Directive 2009/28/EC of the European Parliament and Council of 23 April 2009 on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources, provides that each Member State shall establish a National Action Plan on Renewable Energy ( PANERO) to achieve the national targets set in the directive itself.

For Spain, these objectives are specified in a way that renewable energies account for 20% of the gross final energy consumption, with a percentage in the transport of 10% in 2020.

It is significant the potential energy of many of the waste streams generated in the different aspects of human and industrial activity such as municipal solid waste, consumer waste (tires, etc.), Sewage sludge, agricultural waste and forestry, etc. . They are therefore alternative sources of renewable energy, greener and in many cases more profitable.

It is fundamental and a priority to assess their potential in different energy scenarios, quantifying current and potential weight in response to energy demand in Spain, and the now mature and emerging technologies that could improve and enhance their development, increasing energy efficiency in its various forms.

The aim of the 3rd edition of the International Conference on Energy Production from Waste and Biomass is to analyze the production of energy by exploiting all kinds of waste and its contribution to a Spanish energy model both in the medium and long term taking as backdrop the new Waste Framework Directive and the draft waste Spanish Law and the National Action Plan for Renewable Energy in Spain (PANERO) 2011-2020.

To this end, the conference becomes the ideal scene to discuss and analyze, among all stakeholders, and through the participation of renowned experts in the fields of biogas, biomass, waste and energy, which would be the contribution of energy from waste and residual biomass to an energy model for Spain in the medium and long term.
